About This Image

One of those pieces of vernacular photography that transcends its medium. The split image that replicates five young women (are they sisters or relatives or just friends?) in different positions. In one image a young boy (a brother?) jauntily joins them. The long dresses indicate a date about 1905-06. They also look very ethnic, perhaps Italian. The grape arbor that surrounds them adds a little credence to that thought. The image just reminded me of Nicholas Nixon's wonderful images of the same set of sisters.
